New Orleans, LA May 17, 2004 -- Physician, author and columnist Dr. Kathleen Wilson will present two new books at this years BookExpo in Chicago. Health For Midlife Women: When You Think You Are Falling Apart shares with women the latest thinking on psychological problems, anti-depressant use, what the Womens Health Initiative studies really showed about estrogen replacement therapy. She discusses perimenopause, skin care, cosmetic surgery, cardiovascular disease, common cancers, and how to manage in the medical system. She has focused her medical practice on midlife people and observes what keeps them healthy. She emphasizes what women can do to help themselves to avoid those big, expensive medical problems later on.
Brain Maintenance: How To Prevent Stroke and Delay Dementia covers the most exciting news since the discovery of penicillin in the last century. While most people are fatalistic about whether they will get dementia later in life, research in the last two years has shown us that much of dementia may be preventable. Stroke (vascular disease of the brain) and Alzheimers are no longer considered to be independent of each other but synergistic. Dr. Wilson tells people how to protect their brains by preventing stroke and other forms of brain damage. The first third of the book, reviews the latest studies on how the brain works, The Nun Study, and studies over many years of what makes people happy and mentally successful later in life. She explains clearly what Alzheimers, stroke and dementia are and she tells people the things they can do so they do not get dementia. This book is a new outlook on your brains health.
Dr. Kathleen Wilson attended medical school at the University of Iowa, trained at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN., and is a senior internal medicine doctor in New Orleans. She is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. She describes her position as a medical doctor for 28 years as a front seat in the drama of life.
Dr. Wilson will sign copies of Your Husbands Health: Simplify Your Worry List at 9:30 a.m. during the Book Expos Health & Wellness Salute on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at McCormick Place in Chicago.
